How Credit Card Information Are Stored In Payment Center

You can choose to store credit card numbers in Payment Center. In Payment Center Settings there is a box called Store Credit Card/Bank Account, check that box to store credit card numbers.

The credit card numbers are stored in PCI-compliant encrypted fields. You only see the last 4 digits:

If you decide not to store credit card numbers, simply uncheck Store Credit Card/Bank Account. The credit card number won’t be stored but the rest of the information, such as the name and expiry date, will be saved:

If you don’t want to store the name and the expiry date as well, check the setting called Clear Non-Sensitive Information in Payment Center Settings:

When the above box is checked, no credit card information will be saved:

Note however that although you may have decided not to store any credit card information, some processors will still require the information in order to process captures, voids or refunds. With these processors, the relevant information will be saved in the payment record. These processors are:

  • Authorize.Net – needs the information for refunds
  • Forte – needs the information for refunds
  • Payleap – needs the information for capture and refunds
  • Paypal Payflow Pro – needs the information for captures, voids and refunds

Within these processors there is a flag called Retain Payment Details, you can uncheck this flag and the credit card details won’t be saved. With the information not saved, you will have to do captures, voids or refunds directly from the processor’s interface (not from Payment Center).

Payment Profiles

If you have decided to store credit card numbers, payment profiles will also be created. This is useful if you frequently have returning customers, as their payment profile will be defaulted when they make payments in the future, as seen on the screenshot below:

If you have enabled tokenization, a token will be stored in the profile instead of the credit card number:

And the token can be used in future payments as well:
